PostSubject: A ban of sorts on anime, manga, and related stuff in Tokyo   Mon Dec 13, 2010 9:05 pm

So apparently, a bill was passed pertaining to banning material that would be "harmful to the development of youth" and other vague, unclear restrictions. Basically, it was targeted at our glorious anime industry of Japan. Here are some related links:

http://www.sankakucomplex.com/2010/12/13/tokyo-anime-manga-ban-passes/

http://www.sankakucomplex.com/2010/12/13/dpj-backs-manga-ban/

http://www.sankakucomplex.com/2010/12/13/mangaka-my-publisher-has-banned-school-uniforms/

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/asia/japan/7453152/Japans-manga-artists-angry-over-sex-and-violence-ban.html

While technically the ban is only supposed to affect Tokyo, in due deliberation, you can expect publishers to react badly to this, for instance, cutting out materials which may conflict with that law. Which means a lot less anime that we see today, especially things like yuri/yaoi, animes and mangas that involve violence, and lolis.

What is your take, manga mages?

Something like what you said, Tifa, except it is merely to do with sales in the city of Tokyo. However, publishers might end up doing silly things as a result of the ban.

My dears, yuri/yaoi isn't violence, but it's considered a sexual crime. By extension, homosexuality. Shounen/shoujo ai is homosexuality, and such it will also be in trouble.

But you see, Yuuki, since loli material is affected, there is a great possibility that moe would be affected too. As there is very little discernible difference between the two by right. The only difference is that loli material has more to do with sexual things, than moe. Basically loli = ero/hentai; moe = kawaii.

Therefore, this bill might just kill the anime industry like cancer. Or it might bring a resurgence of animes similar to a lot of older ones, but then again violence is not permitted.

Updated news, things may not be as bad as it seems. Here's a few links which would clarify a number of things.

http://dankanemitsu.wordpress.com/2010/12/15/tokyo-assembly-passes-bill-156-anti-anime-and-manga-bill-is-now-law/

http://dankanemitsu.wordpress.com/2010/11/24/bill-156s-total-scope/

http://dankanemitsu.wordpress.com/2010/12/14/something-people-overseas-can-do-fight-misconceptions-about-bill-156-and-japan/

http://dankanemitsu.wordpress.com/2010/12/14/what-is-the-big-deal-with-child-pornography-in-japan/

http://dankanemitsu.wordpress.com/2010/11/24/of-illegal-fictional-marriage-and-harmful-fictional-sex/

For those who couldn't be bothered to comprehend, it would not outright ban production of what we like, but should only relegate them to Adult Only distribution. Much of the bill is unrelated to anime and manga itself, and only applies to minors in Japan.

However, there is enough clout in the bill to restrict freedom of speech, though only if the publisher or creator repeatedly violates said law.

Just read it all for full understanding of the bill.

You know, the problem lies within yourself, not the material. You don't solve the problem by getting rid of the temptations. You solve them by fixing yourself who would be tempted by such temptations. What they are doing, though not bad to an extent, is still a bit of a problem in my opinion. They are generally making a great fuss over something when clearly there is nothing to worry about.

I will openly admit that I access a lot of sexually-related material, even lolicon-related material at times, but that has yet to make me want to rape a 7 year old girl, or fall in love with a 12 year old girl. I am already well aware of how idiotic such things are in real life.

That being said, you might point out that I'm already 18 years of age, but I will say that I had been seeing such things since at least 3 years ago. A friend of mine goes even way back, and I'm one of his confidant, yet he has not developed into a sexual predator. He has never gone to any length to talk to me about such matters.

If you do it right, exposing a child to such materials is a good way of moulding a child into a better person. Rather than letting them learn about it themselves and probably getting it all wrong, it's better to teach them yourself, so that they will learn what is right.

So all in all, try not to think that censorship is in anyway good.

THAT IS EXACTLY MY POINT. Since you cannot and should not at all do certain things in real life, you must control yourself. Even if you are a lolicon or some other thing, keep everything to the anime and manga medium. In fact, I should say that anime and manga actually helps control such feelings should it ever surface. After all, most if not all paedophiles had never accessed loli materials before, but instead took up real child pornography. See the difference?

And at any rate, my lolicon-ness is mild lol

I'm not a true lolicon. I don't love girls any younger than 15 years old that way, and I'm not that much older. I do have a predisposition towards young looking girls, or drawn to look like they were much younger. So try not to misunderstand. I also dislike the Super Deform style, which is supposed to be cute to people, but it's not to me.

And please don't ask me what part of a little girl I like because there is none.
